Iris’s gaze immediately flew towards the door. Her heart pounded wildly as she rose to greet him. She was acutely aware of his heated stare burning through her skin.

“Dad!” squealed Esme, jumping up to hug him. Even the pups were excited. They surrounded him as if he had returned home after a decade.
