Chapter 175
The clock now showed ten at night. Nathan could no longer hold back. He grabbed his coat and stormed out of the house. His car sped through the now quiet city streets until it stopped in front of Elena’s apartment.
He didn’t bother pressing the doorbell, since he had known the access code for a long time. The door opened with a click, and he stepped inside with heavy breaths.
The apartment was calm. The living room light glowed dimly. Elena’s four children were already asleep in their rooms, the only sound in the small place was the ticking of the wall clock.
On the sofa, Elena looked relaxed, sitting cross-legged while biting into an apple in her right hand. Her left hand held a pencil, focused on sketching a dress design on a large sheet of paper. Sometimes she frowned, erasing the parts that didn’t fit.
Nathan watched the scene for a few seconds. The woman looked far too calm, as if nothing had happened since the afternoon.
