This wasn’t a dream. Maya was here, and our baby was fine. Relief washed over me like warm sunlight breaking through a stormy sky. She was safe, and the child we’d made together was healthy. In that moment, I knew real happiness for the first time in a long while.

Maya was overwhelmed, of course—pregnancy on top of everything else must have been terrifying. I could only imagine the emotional whirlwind she faced: fear, hope, exhaustion, doubt. But I vowed to be her rock, no matter how uncertain things got. Even when she’d shut me out by withholding her plans and choosing to work with Thomas, my commitment to her never wavered.
