SHADOW
It was kindly awkward lying down with my husband in bed and doing nothing but stare at the ceiling. He was only in his boxers, while I was in his baggy shirt. I felt suddenly nervous as the room fell into silence.
I couldn’t read his mind anymore, which was a bummer, so I could not find out what he thought unless I asked him. In this case, it was not going to happen.
“Your heartbeat is rising, baby. What’s on your mind?” he finally talked, but he didn’t move.
I had to tell him the truth. “I feel awkward with your silence.”
“Hmm.” He chuckled, finally facing me. He lifted his hand to touch my cheek. “Why is that?”
“I don’t know. The last time we were in bed.” I shrugged. I couldn’t finish my words. My cheeks heated. “Shit.”
I sat on the bed. Deep inside, I still hoped that Raven was still out there waiting to be found, but I should get to this person with anxiety and vulnerability and accept that she was forever gone.
