SHADOW
Califf’s arms and legs tightened around me. “Shadow, what’s wrong?”
I swallowed hard before I spoke. “I could still smell blood.”
“What do you mean?” He rubbed his eye with the back of his finger. “I don’t smell anything.”
“I was dreaming. Gray and red wolves were lifeless with bites on their necks.”
“Lie back down. It’s just a dream.”
“I know. Since we met, I have had three dreams. The first one was people lying in a pool of blood. The second one when you watched me sleeping.” It might be embarrassing to admit, but he had to know. “I dreamed of us together.”
“Okay.” He was amazingly calm about this.
“Then this one. Two wolves are dead. I’m scared, Califf.”
“Come here.”
I turned and faced him. I could feel he was sincerely concerned, so I asked, “Do you know who I was before I told you about me?”
“I had a feeling that you are different. I saw you in your wolf form.”
My eyes grew big. “When?”
