That last part made my cheeks flush. “You’re not listening, Zarah. I watched the man walk toward us, and he would shoot me. He was already pulling the gun from his back, and I just stared like a scared deer caught in headlights. If it wasn’t for Califf, I could be dead now.”
“You froze, Shadow. It’s normal. It happens to everyone in that situation when it brings back bad memories. There’s nothing wrong with you.” Zarah was hiding what she saw in my head and wasn’t planning on telling me.
