Demetri’s POV

Wednesday, January 24, 11 p.m.

I give her an appreciative smile as she walks in with Madilyn snuggled into her neck. It’s only as she gets closer to me that I realize that she’s been crying, and Madilyn is in even worse shape. It’s obvious that she’s been riding the same roller coaster as Cole.

“I’m sorry, Cole. It looks like I need to change my plans,” I state apologetically as I sit up in the bed. I place my hand on Madilyn’s head, brushing her hair out of her face.

“It hurts,” she manages to whisper as tears fall down her face.
