Chapter 12
Cold hard stone pressed into Annabelle’s body, going soft around her head. Her eyes blinked open as the stark contrast confused her tired brain.
It was freezing, yet her body was still bathed in sweat. The darkness was lit by shadowy lights flickering against…Was that a stone wall?
Her hands felt the hard, dirty floor as her gaze focused on the low ceiling above. Realization dawned on her – she was in the cage.
Lifting her head as her heart rate raced, she wiped the sweat out of her eyes as it dripped down her forehead. The cave opened out into a rough circle, the walls carved out of solid stone on one side and earth on the other. Old rusted iron bars ran across the center, trapping her inside. Wait, what?
Pulling herself up from her position on the floor, she grasped her head when pain splintered it in half.
