Chapter 99
Adam emerged from the bathroom, looking slightly remorseful as he saw Kaytly lying on the bed. He noticed her body beneath the blanket trembling ever so slightly, and he knew she was crying.
A pang of heartache rose as he walked toward the bed, wanting to comfort her. But the wound he had inflicted upon her made him wonder if he had any right to say anything.
In his inner turmoil, anger flickered across his expression before he quickly suppressed it. Kaytly’s head was buried under the covers, and she remained motionless.
The room immediately fell into a heavy silence, the air filled with a sense of frustration and suppression that made Adam feel uneasy. He reluctantly scratched his damp hair, hurriedly dressed, and left the room as if he were escaping.
A heavy door closing sounded from downstairs, followed by a car engine revving. Kaytly lifted the blanket, revealing her small, disappointed face.
