Narrator’s POV

Richard was not even close to being done with her. How dare she get herself hurt? And he was not supposed to care anymore, especially with how she walked out on him those months ago.

He noticed the fire in her eyes a little too late.

“My apologies, your highness. Had I known my theatrics would have such a dry effect on you, I would have gone the extra mile, my king,” Jessica said with barely concealed anger.

Richard took a threatening step toward her before stopping himself. It would not bode well for either party involved if he lost his cool.

Besides, he was supposed not to care.

He didn’t even know why he came here in the first place.

“I see you are well on your way to perfect health, so I’ll leave you be. You have one job. Find out who the girl is. What species am I dealing with here, her heritage? You have a week to get me meaningful information,” Richard said and turned to leave.
