Nicholas

The darkness inside me stretched endlessly. The ache vibrated through my body, reminding me of what I’d lost. I’d been so confident. But, the truth was, now I was a husk. My mate had been torn from me, and with it my soul had been plucked away. My throat burned from my howl and though my brothers had joined in, we couldn’t overcome the truth. Erina had been taken away.

We’d lost, and I’d never lost before. I was trying to comprehend how to deal with it. What did I need to do next? What plans did I have? But everything inside was empty. I could only focus on the empty hole inside me where Erina’s softness should remain.

“Nicholas?” Jack flopped onto the bed, pulling his knees to his chest. “What do we do now?” My little brother rocked back and forth, voice unbelievably soft.

Jack had never sounded so broken before. The little maniac I’d nurtured had been silenced. But I didn’t know what to say to him. My wolf was even speechless. What were we g
