“I’m sorry I reacted that way. I just really didn’t like what you did… and… and where did you get the idea that we’ve met before? When… when did we ever meet?” I laughed, but I knew that laugh was too awkward and forced, so I pretended to cough afterward. I even drank some water after that so that he wouldn’t notice that I just fake coughed.
“I don’t know either. That’s just what I felt…” he said, laughing.
“But seriously… all your friends are optimistic?” I asked him with a frown. I just got curious because it didn’t seem healthy for all his friends to be like that. It could lead to toxic positivity.
“Yeah. But it’s partly my fault too…” He was cut off mid-sentence because we were both startled by the loud alarm, signaling the end of lunchtime.
