As the carriage rumbled along the cobblestone streets, I leaned back against the cushioned seat, trying to quiet the swirling thoughts in my mind. The gentle sway of the carriage should have been soothing, but my nerves refused to settle. I kept glancing out the window, hoping against hope that Aiden might somehow appear randomly here, telling us that he would be joining us on this business trip.
Jackson and Jay, seated beside me (Jackson’s in between me and Jay), were engrossed in a conversation about what they do for work.
