Chapter 80. The Guard
As Gerard and the detective emerged from the dimly lit room, a storm of emotions brewed within Gerard. His face contorted with anger and frustration, while the detective, though disappointed, remained resolute.
"Mr. Huxley, I'm sorry things turned out this way," the detective began, his voice tinged with empathy. "Trust me. I'm going to get him to talk."
Gerard clenched his fists, struggling to contain his emotions. "I trust you, detective," he replied tersely. "But I can't shake this feeling of regret. What if he doesn't talk?"
"Don't blame yourself, sir," the detective reassured, placing a hand on Gerard's shoulder. "Life is unpredictable. We can't always foresee the intentions of those we let into our lives."
Gerard nodded, albeit reluctantly. "Give me some time," the detective continued, his tone firm yet reassuring. "I'll bring you good news
