“What are you doing here?!” one of the kitchen servants demanded, glaring at her.
Please… let me just prepare dinner for my lady. I won’t take long,” Melva begged softly.
The woman laughed cruelly. “Do you really think I’ll allow that? Get out! The traitor’s daughter deserves what’s coming to her. Let her starve in the dungeon!”
“Please, just a little food—”
Before Melva could finish, the head cook had already called for the guards. They dragged her away as she struggled and sobbed. Desperate, she searched the palace for even a sweet potato or leftover bread, but every servant she approached shoved her aside.
