Chapter 14. The Big Announcement

Elena POV

“I’d like to officially introduce someone very special to me,” Lorenzo announces. “And make an announcement.”

The room is suddenly tense and my heart begins to beat fast, as I dread the announcement my stepfather is about to make.

And why do I feel it’s going to be a big one???

He clears his throat.

“I’ll like to introduce my new daughter….Elena”

The crowd erupts into polite applause, though I notice the way some people exchange subtle glances …glances that whispers, Who is she? and Why is she here??

I look around the room as Lorenzo motions for me to step closer to him.

That’s when I realize…

This isn’t just a dinner party.

It’s a gathering of power. Of criminals in suits.

Men with scarred knuckles and dead eyes.

Women with blood red lips and stilettos sharper than daggers. Dangerous beauty. Ruthless charm.

Mafia.

All of them.
