"That's not right."
"That's right." I claim. "I've tried my whole life to meet your standards, even when you weren't there to stop me. Now that I think about it, I don't have to do that because it's not me who's nothing. You did it."
"Sky." This is not a tone I've ever heard from him before; rather, his voice seems weak and strained.
"I had this strategy in mind. An arrangement to come here with you tonight and put an end to your life." I slide the blade out from where it was resting on my hip, and I hold it in the light of the moon. "It would be so simple to take this knife and drive it right through your heart if I wanted to. Believe me when I say that I've given a lot of consideration to this subject. It would make sure that you would never come back, and we could go on with our lives without being afraid. The rest of my life could continue normally. I won't kill you, though."
In a tone that is practically a whisper, he asks, "Why not?"
