As the dinner talk progressed, my gaze was drawn to Ray Austin, a seemingly older man among the younger pack members. His tone was restrained, and his look, with his nerdy glasses and handlebar beard, gave off an aura of mystery. Something felt odd about him, and his piercing gaze made me uneasy even when he wasn't gazing directly at me. Ray's intriguing nature seemed to meet the description of the ideal villain.

Amara's remark about the misplaced ring jolted me back to the present. Everyone's interest was sparked when I mentioned my wedding band, and Ruth inquired if it was a wedding ring.

"Yes, it could be somewhere in my room," I said, unprepared for the topic to turn to Xavier's proposal.

"I'm curious how Xavier proposed to you," Jerry joked, and I couldn't help but wonder how much they were aware of our unusual arrangement.
