Again, Gwen turned to Steve. He smiled and nodded when her eyes met his. Gwen’s relief was apparent to both Steve and Charlotte.

Steve never seemed to be able to be alone with Gwen in the days that followed. He knew she was avoiding him and it bothered him more than he cared to admit. Since the rotary luncheon was at noon, Gwen had decided to spend the morning preparing for the dance. She had decided to give the Rotary the very best she could.
