[Japan, one and a half years before the pregnancy]
I was feeling nervous, my fingers were sweating, and my breathing was heavy. Doctor Nakamoto looked at me with a strange gaze, perhaps pity, perhaps not, definitely pity.
"But will I live? I'm only twenty-nine..." I looked at the doctor in the eyes, pleading for a positive answer.
"Mr. In, calm down," he adjusted his glasses and looked at me. "You have diastolic heart failure."
"But does that mean I can die?" I stood up and started pacing back and forth. "But I'm young, Dr. Nakamoto... I can't die!"
"Sir, I've already said it, calm down!" he raised his voice, getting my attention. "Please, sit down."
I nodded and sat down. My fingers seemed to have a life of their own, tapping against each other on my legs.
