Chapter 95. What She Brought Him

Diana told Gabriel about the cottage on Wednesday, while he was looking for his keys.

“We're going back to the coast on Friday.”

He stopped with one hand inside his coat pocket.

“Are we?”

“The weekend we kept free. Same cottage. Two nights.”

He looked at her properly now.

“You booked it?”

“Yes.”

Diana enjoyed his expression. He seemed pleased, then surprised by being pleased without having organized anything himself.

“The article fee arrived,” she added. “I used part of it. The rest is staying where it is.”

Gabriel opened his mouth.

“Don't offer to reimburse me.”

He closed it again, smiling.

“I was going to say thank you.”

“No, you weren't.”

“No. But I arrived there.”

She went to him and straightened his collar.

“I wanted to take you somewhere.”

His hand came up to cover hers.

“Then take me.”

On the last Friday in May, they left after lunch.
