If there was ever a moment that felt like we’d finally outrun the chaos of monsters and old magic and terrifying near-deaths—it was this.

The afternoon sun was slanting through the trees, dappling the forest floor with gold. The breeze carried the scent of moss, warm bark, and the fading remains of Mama’s earlier baking. And for once, none of us were talking about battles or runes or ancient guardians.

We were arguing. Loudly. Over teams.

Yep, you read that fight. Just to talk about “teams”.

“For the last time,” Sari groaned, “...you cannot make Lily a neutral party just because she’s small and fast!”

“She’s literally the smallest and fastest!” Aya argued, arms crossed. “She should be the wild card. Like a forest ghost. Uncatchable.”
