Meanwhile, Bruno stood outside the courthouse, watching Helena's car slowly drive away. It was a scene he imagined would be easy to witness, after all, they were now going their separate ways. However, his heart seemed to be lodged in his throat, beating erratically as if it might stop at any moment.
As he contemplated following after Helena, a middle-aged man approached him. It was Carlos Madeira, the private investigator Bruno had hired. Bruno looked up at him, curious about his presence.
“The woman who just left was Helena?” he asked directly.
Bruno met Carlos Madeira's eyes, his thoughts momentarily diverted from Helena to the matter at hand.
“Yes, it was her,” he replied, his voice sounding harsher than intended.
Carlos Madeira nodded briefly before extending an envelope toward Bruno.
“As requested, here are some details about the possible whereabouts of the gypsy,” he explained, his tone professional.
