“Someone put some money into this place,” I whispered in awe.

On the wall opposite the stairwell was a line of whips, paddles, canes, and of course, crops. I winced when I saw a rather nasty-looking cat-o’-nine tail that resembled the traditional one, only this one had leather coming out of the braids. I did not care if it had feathers coming out of it. The nasty thing looked like it would hurt even to be tickled by it. I touched the handle of it cautiously as if it were going to spring off the wall and begin whipping me by itself.
