Chapter 167
The following day arrived so quickly that it seemed as though nature was pressuring him to make the choice he feared the most at the time. As a result, he stood there looking into the mirror, fastening his cufflinks and folding the collar of his button-down shirt.
He despised his image in the glass. He detested the fact that he was about to harm her once more. He despised having to return the one person she had come to adore.
He only prayed that she would heed Maximo's advice not to discuss it with Jane.
Was he lying to Jane?
She needed to be somewhere else, somewhere other than the manor, so he pushed the remorse away.
Besides, Gia would be gone soon, and where did that leave her? Alone in the manor, with him who had his head buried in a gun.
He buttoned up the shirt, then stood, staring at himself in the mirror. He wouldn't deceive himself; Jane had also weaved her way into him, and seeing her and Gia together, there was this satisfaction.
