When I woke up the following morning and noticed he wasn't anywhere in sight, I wasn't surprised.

I had heard when the door slowly shut closed in the middle of the night, my eyes wide open staring at the wall, somehow knowing he wouldn't return.

Although Clara and Simone had been speaking in terms that sounded like parables last night, I knew the situation was quite difficult and that it had to do with the Quirinal Palace; I felt the pressure.
