“Your shoulder is completely shot through and will require surgery, so I’m going to have to sedate you before we get moving, alright?”
The paramedic held up a nine-inch needle and flicked the tip before looking back at Artemis, who was trying to get up from the carrier gurney. She gave the younger girl a disapproving glare and reached to push her back down, tutting, “We seriously have to go. The inspector will be expecting news at any moment, and I wouldn’t like to disappoint.”
Artemis swung her feet over the edge of the bed and gave the medic her brightest smile, “Don’t worry, ma’am. I’ve got my dad wrapped around this.” She showed her pinky finger, “And I just want to do something really quick.”
