Chapter 11
If Jonas had a dollar for each iota of pain the youngsters inflicted on him, he would be rolling in wealth by now. He didn’t expect the grenade he had thrown to come flying back up, and by the time it was at its last countdown, he barely managed to leap out of its immediate field before it detonated. The force of the explosion had knocked him back, and the heat seared his face, arms, and neck. Coupled with his gunshot wounds, he felt like the walking disaster that he was, but now, he was fueled up even more in aggression toward them.
Looking down at their not-so-adorably defiant faces, he felt like punching himself for not coming with another hand grenade. To a little bit of his satisfaction, though, he saw that Artemis was holding her shoulder at an angle that implied she was in immense pain. Good. She was obviously shot then.
Darius tutted over them, “To be fair, this was quite fun.” He turned to his men, “What do y’all think?”
