Chapter 108
As Alan shuffled down the corridor with the IV pole hooked up, his gaze suddenly fixed on her. If it weren't for the aide beside him, he might have stumbled right then and there. His whole face lit up, and he let go of the pole, taking a bold step forward. But it was too much. His legs buckled beneath him, and he started to go down, only to be caught and propped back up by the aide.
"Alan, you gotta take it slow, man," the aide cautioned.
"Damn it, my wife's here," Alan retorted, frustration and longing evident in his voice.
Susan flashed a smile and reached out to steady him. Hearing his soft moan of 'easy,' she eased up the pressure around his chest and pulled him close.
"You have no clue what a nightmare I've been through these past ten days, Alan. The food was downright inedible, the accommodations were a disaster, the beds felt like rocks, and to top it off, no room service. How about you, babe? How'
