Chapter 249

Callaway's father, James Hammermann, had been released from jail, on $150,000 bail. One the provision of the bail agreement was he could not leave Cottonwood, until his trial was over. No date for the trial was set, because he wanted to obtain his own attorney. In order to obtain the money for his bail, he signed the deed to his property, as surety, to Patricia's lawyer. She owned the mortgage on his home and no liens on the property were allowed.

Just as Patricia knew he would, James Hammermann left the confines of Cottonwood, and drove to Sedona for a weekend of partying. There was an altercation in a nightclub, and even though he was not involved, the police took his name address, and driver's license number. They ran it through their computers, found out he was out on bail, and his restrictions. They arrested him and put him in jail, until he could be returned to Cottonwood.
