Chapter 29
As the darkness crept in, Alan Robbins wrapped up his preparations to depart the cave for the first time. Stephano's nerves were on edge. He double-checked his bulletproof vest, rifle, and extra ammo, making sure everything was in order. Despite his thoroughness, he couldn't shake the unease. If his father's enemies discovered him here, he'd be cornered like a rat, chained to the cave walls with nowhere to run. But in the quiet and darkness of the cave, he found solace. He'd use these elements to his advantage.
Alan assured him that he'd cover the tracks of the truck tires as he drove away, leaving no trace to the cave's entrance. Promising to return the next day under the cover of night, Alan reiterated the rules and wished Stephano luck.
