Sunlight streamed through a gap in the curtains, pulling me from a deep, dreamless sleep. I stretched languidly, my body feeling deliciously rested despite the unfamiliar surroundings. The sheets beside me were cool to the touch; Alexander had been gone for some time.

I sat up, holding the duvet to my chest as I glanced around the opulent bedroom. My bra lay neatly folded on the nightstand, which was strange since I was certain I’d fallen asleep wearing it. Had Alexander removed it while I slept?

I slipped out of bed, wrapping the sheet around my naked body as I padded into the living area. The suite was silent, with no sign of Alexander anywhere. The storm had passed, leaving behind a bright, clear morning visible through the windows.

A rectangular box sat on the coffee table, elegant in its simplicity. Beside it was a folded note with my name written in Alexander’s precise handwriting.
