I flopped back on the couch, my body still humming with unfulfilled desire. “Really?” I muttered to the empty room. “Right in the middle of... that?”
I glanced at the money in my hand, counting the crisp bills. Nine hundred dollars. Alexander had handed it over like a pocket change, barely giving it a second thought.
“Who just casually hands out hundreds like that?” I shook my head, smoothing out the bills. The gesture touched me, though—he wanted to ensure I’d be safe exploring independently. Despite our arrangement, he showed genuine concern.
A small smile crept across my face as I remembered how he’d kissed me before rushing out. Even in his hurry, he’d reminded me to call if anything happened.
“It’s just business,” I reminded myself firmly, though my racing heart suggested otherwise. He was simply being practical, ensuring his “girlfriend” was taken care of while he handled whatever urgent matter Leo had called about.
