I knocked once and entered, tablet held like a shield in front of me. “Your schedule for today, Mr. Knight.” My voice came out clear and steady as I positioned myself beside his desk.
He gestured for me to continue without looking up from his computer screen. The familiar scent of his cologne hit me—spicy, expensive, and entirely too distracting. I forced my eyes to focus on the tablet.
I ran through his appointments methodically, keeping my tone crisp and businesslike.
“That concludes today’s schedule, Mr. Knight. Would you like me to adjust anything?”
“No adjustments needed.” His eyes finally lifted from the computer screen, fixing on me with an intensity that made my skin tingle.
Without breaking eye contact, he reached for a small remote on his desk and pressed a button. The office blinds whirred closed behind me, shielding us from the sights of our colleagues, while the floor-to-ceiling windows still revealed the city beyond.
