Chapter 22. Hostility

Aaron kept glancing up at Davine every once in a while, and though Zera noticed, she said nothing about it. Maybe he was putting together his theory like she had, and there was no problem with that.

After the last staff member, Mrs. Shelly Green, shared her work and home experiences in the last year, they called it a wrap on the talk experience. The next plan of the night was the mingle section and getting to know each other better. Aaron asked if she wanted to leave, but she didn’t want to; for some strange reason, she felt the urge to stay.

A few staff members approached them and said hello. While some were acquainted with Aaron from the fundraiser over three years ago, others knew him from the news.

Zera moved to say hello to a few staff members she knew as well. After a few fake smiles, she decided she had done enough for the night and instead returned to stand with Aaron. She came with two glasses of wine and handed one to Aaron, and they watched the show from
