Chapter 109

As they all sat down to dinner, smiles were exchanged effortlessly. Jessica was, for once, part of what was going on.

Jessica felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. She took it out, declined the call, and placed it back on the table.

“You can answer that,” Dawson said, gesturing to her.

“Oh, don’t worry, I will call them back after dinner.” She knew there was no way she would pick up a call from her aunt in the presence of everyone there. She did not even want to be associated with the woman.

The phone rang a few more times before the caller stopped. Jessica knew she would call back, though. Her aunt had a habit of calling nonstop for a short period, pausing for a few minutes, and then calling again in full force.

“It must be urgent if they keep calling you like that,” Genevieve said.
