Chapter 144
Jane grabbed the telephone and quickly punched in 911 like her life depended on it. Because actually, it did.
She had half expected the conventional ding but there was nothing.
Still breathing raggedly, she tried again.
Nothing.
She pulled the telephone off her ear and then stared at it. Her eyes followed the spiral curve of the wire and with her brows furrowed in confusion she yanked on it gently.
The wire pulled free and she froze, staring down at the bouncing spiral wire of the telephone in her hand.
"Prank of the century, isn't it?"
The monotone male voice that boomed behind her made her blood go cold. She turned slowly, pale faced, and gulped when her eyes rested on Marcus's dark, dangerous expression.
"You must've thought of me as stupid to leave you alone with a telephone, right? Well I'm smarter than you think, Jane. I cut the wires the same day you were brought here. I warned you not to try anything stupid, Jane. You disobeye
