“You finally picked up,” Murat murmured, his voice heavy, as if he had been waiting for this moment far too long.
Ayleen shifted against her pillows, closing her eyes. “I figured if I didn’t, you’d just keep calling,” she replied, her voice carrying the exhaustion of the day.
“Guilty as charged,” he admitted, though something softer lingered beneath his tone.
Finally she responded.
“You sound tired… long day?”
She exhaled, her body melting into the mattress. “Very. It drained me completely.”
“Yes, sounds like that!” he muttered, relishing her sound.
“You are resting well and taking your medicines on time, right?” She asked, though smiling a bit, knowing he must be rolling his eyes.
“Yes, yes, I am doing this, Mommy. Don’t worry!” he groaned, making Ayleen sigh.
A comfortable silence taking over as Ayleen felt herself drifting off to sleep.
“I can’t sleep.” His voice came from the other end.
“Why not?”
