The sun had barely peeked past the clouds, casting a weak warmth over the grounds. A light breeze brushed past my cheek as I stepped further away from the infirmary, my guards keeping a steady pace behind me.
Freedom.
Limited, escorted, but still… freedom.
And I was going to use it to my advantage.
I let my feet carry me along the garden path slowly, almost dreamily, like I hadn’t already planned every twist and turn I’d take.
It wasn’t about escaping. Not today.
It was about the illusion.
About letting them all think I had accepted my place. That I was healing. Humbled.
I just needed them to see me. I needed them to look at me, to watch, to study me, and to realize that their Luna was being cruel. And when they turned their attention from her, I was going to be the victor.
