Chapter 23
Alaria
I ran my fingers through my daughter's hair as she slept.
And though I tried to deny the clench that I felt, I tried to comfort her as best as I could. I couldn't now with everything that was going on. Not when I knew that things were just getting out of hand. Completely out of hand. And now, no matter how hard I was trying, I just couldn't get any control over them.
“Are they going to hurt us, Mama?” Her question, though so innocent, has caught me so off guard that I did not even know how to answer. Because I wanted to. I wanted to tell her that she was safe. I wanted to tell her that no one was going to hurt her. But the fact, the reality, everything that was going around, it all just proved otherwise.
But I knew one thing, Neither one of us could stay here for her safety. If she was going to be able to live her life as normally as I wanted her to, she was not going to be able to stay here. No one was going to be helping
