Liam

The words hit me like a blade.

“She lost the baby.”

I stood in the middle of the infirmary hallway, staring at the doctor who delivered the news. His voice was calm, clinical, as though he hadn’t just taken the air out of my lungs. As though he did not just inform me of something that I did not even want to hear, that I did not want to think about.

Lost.

My child.

Gone.

My blood.

And part of my soul.

I clenched my fists so tightly my knuckles cracked. And with each breath that I took, I felt like boiling water was just being poured into my lungs.

I wanted to smash something. Anything. But no amount of rage would change what had already been done. No amount of rage could explain the pain that I was feeling. No frown, no punch, nothing broken. Nothing could explain what I was feeling right now.

Before I could even take another breath, I felt someone’s presence beside me.
