I didn’t belong here.

“Just walk away, Alaria. You can walk away. You have to walk away.” I said, encouraging myself with each step that I took.

But all I could think about was him. The way that he held her in his arms, the way his back was hunched over as he pulled her into his embrace. The fact that it was she who got it in the end, despite everything, despite me being his wife at first, she somehow managed to break everything that I had and still she was the one who was favored. Of course, she would be. She was his wife.

Even through the closed door, I could hear her muffled cries, her hands clutching at his shirt as she fell apart.

The way my chest ached as I looked at them, as I saw him holding her, comforting her. As I heard her words.

I shouldn’t have stayed to watch. I should have simply just walked away because it meant nothing. I shouldn't have even comforted him.
