I didn’t think dropping my daughter off at preschool would feel like going into battle, but with Liam standing in the doorway of the villa, arms crossed, jaw tight, it was exactly that.

“You’re not taking her.” His voice was calm, but the steel in it was unmistakable. “With everything that is going on around in this world, and with the fact that enemies surround us like a plague, I don't think that the right thing to do is take my daughter out of the pack simply to go to a human school.”

“She’s going,” I said, reaching for Anastasia’s little backpack and slinging it over my shoulder. “She’s been cooped up in this house for months. While you don't understand it or see it, she's been going to school long before you even existed in her life. I don't think that this should stop now simply because now you know of her existence. She needs a normal routine. She needs to see other children. Mind you, children that are not part of your pack
