Chapter 48. This Time, We Sing Back

Selena’s POV

Cleo calls us in the middle of strategy talk, asking to do a video conference. Alpha Matthew immediately puts her on the screen, and when her appears she catches my gaze and I see it, the weight of a Luna settling on her shoulders, the way she squares under it instead of bending.

She brings news to the video conference: Alpha Desmond wants a joint patrol leader summit at Shadow pack by dusk, formal alliance words spoken where his people can hear them. It’s smart. It tells his pack you are not alone and tells the Region we choose your side.

“We’ll go,” Matthew says. He looks at me and Caleb. “You’re both to come. Appear strong.”

“Appear?” Caleb echoes, a spark of storm in his eyes.

“Be strong,” Matthew corrects, the corner of his mouth lifting. “And after the words, we find a quiet place where no one watches and tell the truth, about portals and goddesses and girls who do not stay dead when told.” He adds quietly.

“Yes, Alpha.”
