Selena’s POV
“Yes. But I am very discreet.” Dad answers with a wink and half a smile. A grandmother wants to know if witch rings can be resized if fingers swell with age.:
“We resize the law before we resize the ring.” Humor and truth. A warrior asks if the Charter means his dead father was wrong.:
“He was right for what he had back then. We have more now though.” I answer, and he nods in understanding.
There’s pushback, still. A farmer says “bloodsucker” under his breath like he wants to be heard, and he is, and the room does what rooms do, it chooses a side. He doesn’t storm out. He doesn’t apologize either. He lingers. I’ll take it. We count lingerers the same way we count signed papers because some days they matter more.
By noon, the yard is a braid of motion with our little caravan of persuasion. Dad in a dark coat that says “judge me, it will be fun”; Aunt Amanda with a satchel of maps and a pen behind her ear; Iron-braid because she refuse
