It had been two days.
Two whole days since she’d looked at me and I’d seen nothing there.
No recognition, no warmth. Just that distance — like I was a stranger she couldn’t stand to be near.
And I couldn’t stop replaying it.
Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the way she flinched when I tried to help her sit up. The way she pressed herself against the headboard, breath ragged, eyes wide and confused, like I was something to fear.
I ran a hand through my hair and let out a shaky breath.
