I stood rigid as Thea burst into a fit of rage before me.

The little girl I’d raised since her birth had never looked at me with such fury, such betrayal in those innocent eyes that now burned with accusation.

“I know it was you!” she shouted, her tiny fists clenched at her sides. “You sent Auntie Sarah away, didn’t you? You won’t let me see her!”

“Yes, it was me,” I admitted coldly, seeing no reason to deny the obvious. “What of it?”

Thea’s eyes widened with disbelief, her wolf spirit already showing in the flash of defiance. “How could you? By what right?”

“By what right do you send away my Auntie? By what right do you forbid me from seeing her?” Her voice trembled with emotion
