Chapter 38. Dinner

Avery’s POV

I sat on the edge of the bed, my body still trembling from exhaustion, pain, and unsettled emotions. I still hadn’t slept and my body was beginning to really protest now. Dylan had stopped by again and he had left a vial of meds which I hadn’t even considered taking.

The small vial of medicine sat untouched on the nightstand. I didn’t trust it, didn’t trust him. He was the Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack, a man whose reputation was built on ruthlessness. Why would someone like him offer me kindness?

Yet, my injuries made every movement agony. The bruises on my arms throbbed, and the cut on my forehead stung whenever I so much as blinked. I stared at the vial, weighing my options. Refusing to use it out of spite would accomplish nothing.

With a sigh, I uncorked the vial and took a tentative sniff. It smelled sharp and herbal, not unlike the salves the healers in Golden Ridge had used. I dabbed a little on my fingers and applied it to my bruises,
