Chapter 43. Afraid of Being Heard

Watching the thugs tremble as they were loaded into the vehicles, Emerald felt a brief sense of relief, but it was quickly overshadowed.

Suddenly, Alaric spoke, "Wait."

The man already inside the police car froze, and the officers turned to look at Alaric. He lowered his hand and pointed at a few people.

"These ones didn't participate in the destruction. They're innocent."

The police looked at the individuals Alaric indicated, and they quickly nodded. "Yes, we weren't involved."

"Alright, then the rest will come with us to the station for further investigation."

After the police cars left, the remaining thugs knelt before Alaric, repeatedly expressing their gratitude. "Thank you, Mr. Corrigan."

Holding the baby in his arms, Alaric's expensive suit was now smeared with the child's drool and runny nose as the baby tugged at his buttons. Alaric seemed unfazed, completely at ease. But when he looked down at the kneeling men, his expression turned serio
