Chapter 139. The Center of Attention
ASHLENE
I came back from the restroom to see Lyle waiting just outside the door.
I almost jumped. He was standing with both his hands dug in his pocket. When he saw me, he gave me a wave with his right hand.
“You could’ve just waited on our table,” I said. It’s fine with me, but what if someone else sees him standing outside a ladies’ bathroom? That could give others the wrong idea. He might even be called a pervert and be escorted outside the place.
Who needs that much of an attention?
“I only wanted to make sure you’re okay.”
I frowned. That seemed outstretched.
“Lyle, I only took the restroom to pee. What harm can that cause me?”
“We don’t know. Accidents happen when we least expect it.”
He shrugged. Oh, please. Of the long time that we started as friends and now being a married couple, he even tries to lie to my face.
I know it when Lyle lies. It’s very obvious by the way he’s touching his nape and looking away from me.
